Sourcing & Inspiration

Fabrics and Embellishments

I am always looking for somewhere to find that special fabric or embellishment that I need for a project. I want to share with you the best places that I have found…if you have any good ideas for other places I should try let me know.

The Cotton Patch – Birmingham, West Midlands, UK – My local fabric shop. The ladies are always really helpful and its nice to have someone to chat to about your projects. They also have a website where you can order from.

Fat Quarter Shop – US – I just love the range of fabrics that they have available. I really look forward to their twice weekly newsletters to see what projects and fabrics there are out there. Whenever I make an order it is processed and received quickly and even the international postage doesn’t put me off!!

The Eternal Maker – Chichester, UK – I love coming across the stall for The Eternal Maker and their sister company (The Button Company) at sewing/quilt shows. It is a real treasure trove and you just know they are going to have lots of covetable items. Last time it was some great lime green ric rac, and the time before that some bambi style japanese fabric……have a look and see what you can find!

The Button Company – Chichester, UK – The sister company of The Eternal Maker and the home of the button. If you have a project that requires a button of a certain colour…I bet you will find it here. I have a whole box full of their buttons and I have to say they have been my saviour more than once.

Crafty Ribbons – Dorset, UK – I have bought some fab ribbons from here for my projects.

Fabricworm – Great American online fabric store. Lots of good bundles to choose from particularly if you like the quilts from Oh! Fransson and Red Pepper Quilts.

Fabric Rehab – My favourite British online fabric store….I do need rehab to stop me looking at and buying fabrics from this store. They have some really great bright modern fabrics. Service is always really good.

Books and Patterns

Below is a list of the books and patterns that I use as inspiration for my projects. I don’t always follow a pattern from start to finish but I use them as the skeleton that I work to for my projects. It would take a very long time to list all the books I’ve got in one go so I will add them as I use them so keep checking for new inspiration!

Applique Outside the Lines – Piece O’Cake Designs

Creative Patchwork – Australian Womens Weekly Craft Library

Kids Country – Sarah Lacombe
